Rules for the Race

  • IF you want to race your car, you need to comply with the rules below.

  • Entries are for youth and leaders

  • Family members are welcome to come watch!

  • Max weight is 6oz (170g)

  • Max length is 7in (178mm)

  • Max width is 2.75in (70mm)

  • Max height is 4.75” (121mm)

  • Clearance under the body is 3/8” (9.5mm)

  • Do not alter the wheels in any way

  • You must use the provided axle bracket, no bearings allowed.

  • Only dry lubricants are allowed (for the axle in the axle bracket)

  • You can add almost any materials to your car but they can’t be toxic, flammable, offensive or dangerous.

Kit Includes

  • Block of wood: Fir or Cedar 1.9” x 1.5” x 7”

  • 4 wheels

  • 2 axles

  • 4 thumb tacks to hold axle brackets on wood

  • 2 low friction nylon axle brackets

  • 4 axle spacers

Below is how the wheels and axle should be put together.

Suggestions and other info

  • Be creative. Your car could look like a tube of toothpaste, a food item, a Pokemon character, an insect, whatever you can think up.

  • You can get some ideas for your car here: 80 cool PW derby cars

  • Start now - these cars take quite a bit of work

  • About the last thing to go on your car should be the axle bracket & wheels.

  •  Use a bandsaw to cut out the general shape of your car. Then use belt sander, scroll saw, file, Dremel tool, and sandpaper. BE SAFE.

  • Use glue on the axle bracket in addition to the thumb tacks

  • Add metal, like fishing weights, to get the weight up to maximum.

  • Clean up the axle holders and you may need to drill out the holes for the axle.
